Acute Cardiac Service
Sometimes you need cardiac care beyond the clinic setting, our cardiologists have admitting rights to the coronary care unit at St John of God Subiaco, providing 24/7 emergency cardiac care with a team you know and trust.
You can access the Acute Cardiac Service if you are experiencing the following cardiac symptoms and have private health insurance:
- Chest Pain
- A cardiac arrhythmia – such as a racing heart or a slow heartbeat
- Presyncope/syncope – a brief loss of conscious, or fainting
- Suspected heart failure
- Issues with a cardiac device implanted by one of our cardiologists
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms below, call 000 immediately:
- Severe chest pain for longer than 15 minutes
- Severe shortness of breath
- Blackouts
Who can access this service?
- Existing patients of Western Cardiology – call the hospital directly for admission to the service on 0411 707 017.
- New patients – must be referred by a medical practitioner or ambulance transfer service. Please ask your medical practitioner or ambulance team to call 0411 707 017.
You will be assessed against admission criteria. Patients admitted to the service are taken directly to the Coronary Care Unit and cared for by specialist cardiac nurses and team of cardiologists. Our team works quickly to assess, stabilise, and manage your condition.

You will be directly admitted under the care of the Western Cardiology on call cardiologist to the coronary care unit of St John of God Subiaco. Upon admission, our team works quickly to assess, stabilise, and manage your condition.
In some cases, you may require a cardiac procedure during your admission to the Acute Cardiac Service to help our team diagnose or treat your heart condition. At Western Cardiology we offer a comprehensive service for patients with suspected or confirmed heart disease, following evidence-based treatment guidelines that has been shown to improve your outcomes.
As a collaborative team who put your health outcomes at the centre of what we do, we follow a subspecialist model of care. This means your procedure will be performed by a highly trained specialist in their specific field of cardiology.
